At Purple Couch Therapy, we know that motherhood is often spoken about in terms of joy, connection, and new beginnings. And it can be all of those things. It can also be overwhelming, isolating, and emotionally exhausting in ways that are rarely named out loud. Many mothers carry these experiences quietly while navigating pregnancy, recovery, and the early months of caring for a new baby. During Black Maternal Health Week (April 11–17), we are reminded that these experiences do not exist in isolation. They are shaped by systems, access to care, cultural context, and the lived realities of Black mothers and birthing people. This week is about more than awareness. It is about listening, advocacy, and creating pathways to care that are accessible, affirming, and rooted in community. In alignment with this, we created the Maternal Healing Access Fund.
